Lincoln, Pryor, Berry, Announce $25,000 for Marmaduke

WASHINGTON, D.C. –  U.S. Senators Blanche L. Lincoln and Mark Pryor along with U.S. Representatives Marion Berry (AR-01) and Vic Snyder (AR-02) today announced that the Northeast Greene County Fire District in Marmaduke, will receive$25,542 in federal grant funding for its fire departments through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighter Grants (AFG) program.

“As first responders, local firefighters play an integral role in keeping our communities safe,” said Lincoln. “This federal funding will provide Northeast Greene County Fire District with the best training and equipment to protect families.  I will continue to do all I can to ensure that Arkansas receives the funds and resources we need to keep our state safe.”

"Firefighters are a critical part of our communities’ first responders. This grant will ensure that the Marmaduke fire department has the tools it needs to meet emerging challenges and keep its residents safe," Pryor said. "I will continue to advocate for adequate funding on the federal level for programs that support our local firefighters."

“Firefighters who serve rural areas often face unique challenges and scarce resources,” said Berry. “Therefore we must do everything in our power to ensure they have the equipment, training, and facilities necessary to be prepared for all types of emergencies. These federal dollars will help our firefighters continue to honorably serve their communities."

AFG grants provide fire departments and EMS organizations the tools, training, and resources necessary to protect the health and safety of the public and emergency response personnel.  AFG will award approximately $500 million in competitive grants from FY 2008 funds.
