BERRY VOTES TO PROTECT SENIORS FROM HIGHER MEDICARE PART B PREMIUMS

WASHINGTON, D.C. –  Today, Congressman Marion Berry (AR-01) voted to pass legislation to protect Medicare beneficiaries from increases in their 2010 Part B premiums.  The bill H.R. 3631, The Medicare Premium Fairness Act, passed the House of Representatives with a vote of 406 to 18. The bill will now be sent to the Senate for consideration.

"For many Arkansas seniors who are on a fixed income, every hard-earned cent in their pocketbook matters," said Berry.  "During this downturn in the economy, there is no reason seniors should be faced with even more financial difficulty.  This bill will make sure that beneficiaries are not burdened by rising health care costs.”

The bill has received the support of the AARP, The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare (NCPSSM), the Center for Medicare Advocacy (CMA), Alliance for Retired Americans, National Association of State Medicaid Directors, the Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD), Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law, and the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Association.
