Lincoln, Pryor, Berry Announce Funds for Mountain View

WASHINGTON, D.C. –  U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and U.S. Representative Marion Berry (AR-01) today announced that the City of Mountain View will receive $50,000 to purchase first responder equipment for the community. The funds were allocated through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development Housing & Community Facilities Program and paid for through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

“Arkansas’s first responders put their lives at risk every day to help keep our citizens and communities safe. These recovery funds will allow Mountain View officials to better serve the community while also protecting those who put themselves in harm’s way. I’ll continue to fight to ensure Arkansas has the funds and resources we need to stay strong,” said Lincoln.

“Our first responders need the very best equipment, training and technology in order to swiftly and effectively prepare and respond to any challenge,” said Pryor. “This investment is invaluable, and I will continue to support first responder funding that makes a critical difference in rural America.”

“When an emergency occurs, our first responders are often the first and only source of emergency services in rural areas,” said Berry.  “First responders are essential to our communities and they deserve the very best equipment, training and technology to effectively serve the local residents and keep them safe.”

The USDA Rural Development Community Facilities Program helps finance essential community facilities for public use in rural areas. These facilities include child care centers, hospitals, medical clinics, assisted-living facilities, fire and rescue stations, police stations, community centers, public buildings and transportation. Through this program, USDA ensures that such facilities are available to all rural residents. Public bodies, non-profit organizations and recognized Indian tribes are eligible to apply for funding.
