WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor along with U.S. Representative Marion Berry (AR-01) today announced over $1,377,000 in federal funding for the Mississippi County Arkansas Economic Opportunity Commission. The money will be used to support 18 local Head Start programs across Mississippi County.
“The instruction and care children receive in Head Start programs is essential to preparing them for future success in the classroom,” said Lincoln. “These federal dollars will help to educate our youth in Mississippi County and ensure a brighter future for our children, our state, and our country.”
“Head start can jump start a child’s future,” said Pryor. “Reciting the alphabet or counting to ten may seem like basic skills now, but acquiring these developmental abilities at an early age is critical for creating a strong foundation for a lifetime of learning.”
"Children are our most precious resource and by helping them succeed in school, we help them succeed in life,” said Berry. "These Head Start programs will go a long way to help prepare at-risk children for school through education, social development and health care services. Anything we can do to help our children achieve their full potential is a worthwhile investment."
Head Start is a national program that promotes school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social and other services to enrolled children and families.
