| WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and Representative Marion Berry (D-1st) announced today that the Sixth District Volunteer Fire Department in Stone County will receive a $50,000 Rural Development grant from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The fire department also will receive a $20,000 loan from USDA. These funds will be used to purchase a new fire truck.
“As first responders, our local firefighters play an integral role in keeping our communities safe,” Lincoln said. “These federal dollars will allow the Sixth District Volunteer Fire Department to continue to provide the best possible service to families in Stone County.”
“Volunteer firefighters in Stone County put their lives on the line to protect local homes and families,” said Pryor. “A new fire truck will allow them to expand their efforts to safely and effectively serve the community.”
"Firefighters put themselves in danger to help others and they deserve the best equipment available," said Berry. "These resources will help them continue their mission more effectively by allowing them to purchase a new fire truck."
USDA Rural Development grants support public facilities and services, promote economic development, and offer technical assistance to help address the diverse and unique needs of rural communities.
