WASHINGTON, D.C. – As the holiday season approaches, Congressman Marion Berry (AR-01) announced that several Arkansas residents could have uncollected tax refunds owed to them. In Arkansas's 1st Congressional District, there are 187 undelivered refunds with the average return totaling $560.00, mostly from the 2006 tax year.
"Arkansas families who work hard to make every penny count can really benefit from these extra dollars," said Berry. "Putting money back into the pockets of Arkansas taxpayers is not only a legislative priority, is the right thing to do. I encourage everyone to take a few moments to call or visit the IRS' website to see if they might have a few extra dollars in their wallets this holiday season."
Taxpayers can check to see if they are owed money by:
- Visiting the IRS's website at: www.irs.gov click on "110 Million in Refund Checks Are Looking for a Home."
- Taxpayers can check the status of their refunds and receive instructions on how to resolve delivery problems.
- Accessing the telephone version of “Where’s My Refund?” by calling 1-800-829-1954.
Every year, thousands of checks are returned to the IRS as undeliverable. Nationwide this year, about 115,000 checks worth a total of $110 million haven’t been received by taxpayers. The refund checks, averaging about $953, can be claimed as soon as taxpayers update their addresses with the IRS.
