Ross Secures $500,000 for City of Pine Bluff in
House Appropriations Bill

(Washington, D.C.) U.S. Representative Mike Ross (AR-04) has successfully secured $500,000 for the City of Pine Bluff in the Fiscal Year 2008 Interior, Environment and Related Agencies Appropriations Act which has passed in the House Appropriations Committee and will now be sent to the full U.S. House of Representatives for final passage.

The funds will be used to extend the sewer lines in Pine Bluff South under Interstate 530 and will provide service to the industrial area on both sides of Olive Street.

“I am proud to have secured these funds in the House Interior Appropriations bill to help Pine Bluff continue its path to economic growth,” Ross said. “I pledged to be an economic ambassador for Arkansas’s Fourth Congressional District and it is an honor helping to improve our communities to better serve its’ residents and visitors. Pine Bluff has always been the financial and trade center of Southeast Arkansas and I will continue working to secure needed federal funding to make necessary infrastructure improvements in order to attract jobs.”

The Appropriations Bill will now go to a Conference Committee of House and Senate members who will work to combine both Chambers’ bills to form a Conference Report. Upon passage of the Conference Report by the full House and Senate, the final bill will then be sent to the President to be signed into law.

In his efforts to spur growth in the Delta Region, Congressman Ross recently included in key energy legislation $5 million to conduct important biofuels research to the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, and played a lead role in securing $2 million in federal funds for the Saracen Landing lakeshore pavilion project.
