Ross Secures $150,000 in
House Spending Bills for Hot Springs

(Washington, D.C.) U.S. Representative Mike Ross (AR-04) has successfully secured $150,000 for Hot Springs in two Fiscal Year 2008 House Appropriations Bills which passed the full U.S. House of Representatives this week.

Ross secured $100,000 for the Hot Springs Police Department in the House version of the Commerce and Justice, and Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill. Ross said $50,000 of the funds are intended for mobile data equipment such as computer upgrades for police vehicles. The other $50,000 would help fund the purchase of police vests and tactical equipment for the police department’s SWAT team.

“Despite budgetary constraints in our federal government, the safety of our brave men and women who keep our communities safe each and every day should never be neglected,” Ross said. “I am proud to have secured these funds in the House to help provide the Hot Springs Police Department with the necessary tools and resources to protect the families and residents of Hot Springs and in surrounding areas of Garland County.”

Ross also secured $50,000 for the Quapaw Community Center in Hot Springs in the House version of the Transportation and Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Bill. Ross said the funds would allow for building improvements and repairs for the center.

“As one of the largest community centers in Garland County, I am happy to secure these important funds in the House to help the Quapaw Community Center make the necessary improvements to remain a vibrant part of the community,” Ross said.

Ross pledged his support to continue fighting for these important projects as they move through the appropriations process.

Upon passage of the Appropriations Bills in the Senate, each measure will then go to a Conference Committee of House and Senate members who will work to combine both Chambers’ bills to form a Conference Report. Upon passage of the Conference Reports by the full House and Senate, the final bills will then be sent to the President to be signed into law.
