Ross Secures $250,000 in House Spending Bill for
Ouachita County Sheriff’s Department

(Washington, D.C.) U.S. Representative Mike Ross (AR-04) has successfully secured $250,000 for the Ouachita County Sheriff’s Department in the Fiscal Year 2008 House Commerce and Justice, and Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill which passed the full U.S. House of Representatives Thursday.

Ross said the funds are intended to expand security and disaster preparedness at the Highland Industrial Park in East Camden.

“The Highland Industrial Park in East Camden plays a vital role in our national defense, and our local law enforcement officers who protect these facilities should have the best resources available,” Ross said. “I was honored to work with Sheriff Paul Lucas on this project and I appreciate him approaching me to request these vital funds. In this post 9-11 era, we must provide our local law enforcement officials the resources they need to protect Highland Industrial Park and neighboring communities from potential terrorist attacks.”

Ross pledged his support to continue fighting for this important project as it moves through the appropriations process.

Upon passage of the Commerce and Justice, and Science, and Related Agencies Appropriation Bill in the Senate, the measure will then go to a Conference Committee of House and Senate members who will work to combine both Chambers’ bills to form a Conference Report. Upon passage of the Conference Report by the full House and Senate, the final bill will then be sent to the President to be signed into law.
