Members of Arkansas Congressional Delegation Commend Magnolia
on Progress, EDA Recognition

(Washington, D.C.) U.S. Representative Mike Ross (AR-04) along with Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor Wednesday commended the City of Magnolia for being one of seven cities nationwide selected to receive a $50,000 performance award through the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA). The award is based on the city having exceeded goals for the completion of construction for the city’s workforce development center such as working to meet both job and private investment expectations.

"I'm proud of the hard work and dedication Magnolia officials have put into this important economic development project,” Ross said. “By completing the workforce development center early, the city has shown a deep commitment to its residents and this additional funding award is a well-deserved honor.”

“I commend Magnolia’s local leaders and workers whose efforts to strengthen their community have earned the city this important recognition and investment,” Lincoln said.

“The workforce development center is an exciting endeavor to prepare job-seekers for new opportunities in the manufacturing industry. I commend the City of Magnolia for moving swiftly on this project and am pleased this award funding will help propel its efforts forward,” Pryor said.

Fiscal Year 2007 will be the first year EDA is using performance awards which can be used to fund EDA approved economic development activities. Performance Incentives for Public Works and Economic Adjustment Investments are distributed to entities that demonstrate outstanding performance. Performance indicators of outstanding performance would include private investment, job creation, timely project completion, organizational leadership, innovation, regional collaboration, and economic strategy to compete in the global marketplace.
