WASHINGTON, D.C.—FALEOMAVAEGA ENCOURAGES SAMOANS AND OTHER PACIFIC ISLANDERS TO APPLY FOR FELLOWSHIP GRANTS

Congressman Faleomavaega today urged Samoans and other Pacific Islanders who wish to pursue careers in public service to take advantage of the opportunities currently available through the APAICS (Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies) Fellowship Programs.

Applications must be postmarked or faxed to APAICS by Friday, April 2, 2004.  The facsimile number to APAICS is (202) 296-9236.  Applications can be downloaded from the APAICS website at www.apaics.org.  Candidates can also request an application by e-mail by sending a message to ssuyat@apaics.org.

“APAICS is a nonprofit, non-partisan, educational organization we, as members of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, and several leaders of the Asian and Pacific Islander communities formed in the mid-nineties to help promote increased participation by Asians and Pacific Islanders at all levels of the political process,” Faleomavaega said.

“There are two vacancies available for fellows to work and study in Congress.  One fellow will work in the office of Congressman Mike Honda who is Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus.  As Vice Chair of the Caucus, the other fellow will work in my office.”

“This is an excellent opportunity for someone to learn about the inner-workings of Congress and the political system in our nation’s capital.  I encourage anyone interested to apply immediately.  Those interested may also contact my office to obtain a copy of the application,” the Congressman concluded.
