WASHINGTON, D.C.—$2 MILLION CIP RELEASED; INTERIOR APPROPRIATIONS PASSES CONGRESS

Congressman Faleomavaega announced today that the FY2001 appropriations bill for the Department of the Interior completed its journey through Congress on Thursday, October 5th.  Included in that bill is ASG’s operating subsidy in the amount of $23 million, CIP funding of $10 million, and approximately $1.2 million for our national park.  There will be substantial additional funding for the President’s Land Legacy program,  but the exact amount is not yet known.

“I am especially pleased to report that the House and Senate Appropriations Committees responded to my request that they release to ASG the $2 million withheld in FY1999 because of unpaid bills to off-island hospitals.  I again want to thank Senator Inouye for his assistance in releasing these funds which are so desperately needed,” said Faleomavaega.  “The President has indicated that he will sign the bill, so there are now four appropriations bills through Congress which are expected to be enacted into law.”

“The Senate also passed a bill to continue the operations of the federal government through October 14th,” said the Congressman.  There are nine more appropriations bills to go, and there is still no definite date on which Congress will adjourn.
