| WASHINGTON, D.C.—FALEOMAVAEGA CONGRATULATES FRANCIS KELEMETE WHO REPRESENTED AMERICAN SAMOA IN THE NATIONAL SPELLING BEE COMPETITION | |
| Congressman Faleomavaega
congratulated Francis Fenumia’i Kelemete for representing American Samoa
in the 76th annual Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee held in Washington,
D.C.
“Ms. Francis Kelemete won top honors in American Samoa and was among 251 students from all over the country that competed for the honor of being the top speller in the nation,” the Congressman said. “It is also my understanding that Francis has come in first place two years in a row in her Pava’ia’i elementary school competitions.” “After she placed third in last year’s island-wide competition, Francis became more determined to make first place, and she did, at the young age of 14. Given her determination to succeed, I am pleased that Francis was able to travel to DC to compete in the national spelling bee competition.” “I also want to commend Francis’ family and her proud father, Mr. Eneliko Kelemete, who took time off from work to accompany Francis to DC and to support her during the competition,” Faleomavaega said. “Although the Kelemetes arrived in Washington when Congress was in recess, my staff had the honor of giving Francis and her father a tour of the Capitol and I am pleased that they were also able to visit my Congressional office,” Faleomavaega said. “Francis has truly set an excellent example for all of us. She set a goal to be the winner of the island-wide Spelling Bee competition, she worked towards that goal, and her determination paid off with a trip to the National Spelling Bee competition. After 15 rounds, a 13 year old student from Dallas, Texas was declared the national winner but Francis will always be American Samoa’s winner.” “Once again, I want to congratulate
Ms. Francis Kelemete for making us proud and representing us so well.
I also congratulate her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eneliko and Tulili Kelemete,
of the village of Mesepa,” the Congressman concluded.
