WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Rick Renzi (AZ-1) announced today that the Florence Fire Department has been awarded a federal grant of $62,130 to enhance the fire department’s ability to respond to fire and fire related hazards.
The grant was awarded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration. The Florence Fire Department will use the funds to purchase two-way radios needed to improve both internal and external communications.
"This is great news for the Florence Fire Department," said Congressman Renzi. "Our first-responders deserve federal grants like this to purchase the equipment they need to properly protect their communities."
"We are excited to hear that the Florence Fire Department was awarded the grant funds from FEMA to purchase two-way radios that will allow our fire personnel to communicate more easily with other fire jurisdictions," said Fire Chief Dennis Hixon. "The new radios will provide Florence firefighters with the increased ability to coordinate resources, respond quickly to emergency calls, and further limit property damage and injuries."
This grant is a part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s efforts to strengthen the Nation’s overall level of preparedness and ability to respond to fire related hazards.
