WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Rick Renzi (AZ-01) announced today that the Snowflake Volunteer Fire Department will be receiving $53,599 in federal funds to enhance the fire department’s ability to respond to fire and fire related hazards. The grant was awarded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) under the Assistance to Firefighters Grants.
“I am grateful that Snowflake will be receiving this DHS funding,” said Congressman Renzi. “These federal funds will allow the fire department to purchase the appropriate clothing and equipment for those first responders that risk their lives everyday to protect our communities.”
Currently, the Snowflake Volunteer Fire Department does not have enough equipment to outfit all of its certified firefighters. The department plans to use these funds to purchase ten Self Contained Breathing Apparatus units as well as ten sets of Turn-out Gear, which includes pants, boots, hoods, and jackets.
“It’s a real blessing to be able to properly outfit our team with this equipment,” said Snowflake firefighter Dale Call.
This grant is a part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s efforts to strengthen the Nation’s overall level of preparedness and ability to respond to fire related hazards.
