WASHINGTON – Congressman Cardoza announced today that his office will not submit earmark requests for any private organization. “While submitting earmark requests for private companies has never been my common practice, I want to formally establish this prohibition as my office policy,” said Cardoza. In recent weeks the issue of Congressional earmarks has made national headlines. Some have questioned the use of earmarks and highlighted their abuse as Congress works to pass the $410 billion omnibus spending bill to fund the federal government. Congressman Cardoza said he would continue to submit requests for public projects in his district. “I continue to support earmarking funds for worthy projects in the 18th Congressional District,” said Congressman Cardoza. “I believe that taxpayer funds used for this purpose should be returned to local governments and other public entities that pursue projects for the benefit the public good.” |
