WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressmen Dennis Cardoza invited residents to provide written testimony on the Central Valley’s housing crisis to the House Committee on Financial Services. At the request of Congressman Cardoza and Congressman Jerry McNerney (D-Pleasanton) the committee will conduct a field hearing in Stockton on September 6. The hearing will be overseen by Committee Chair Barney Frank. The Financial Services Committee oversees all components of the nation’s housing and financial services – including banking, real estate, insurance, housing, and securities. At the hearing, Congressman Frank will receive testimony from local elected officials, as well as mortgage brokers, realtors, and HUD-approved housing counselors. Advocates for those in need of mortgage assistance will be among those testifying. However, Congressman Cardoza is encouraging any resident of the Valley to provide testimony to his office, which will in turn be provided to the committee staff. “We cannot stand idly by and allow the degradation of one of the most important and fundamental institutions in our nation – the family home,” said Congressman Cardoza. “Here and now is the time for our voices to be heard. And they must be heard loud and clear.” Residents may submit their testimony by 5 p.m. Friday to any of Congressman Cardoza’s three offices. Statements may dropped off or mailed to Congressman Cardoza at any of the following addresses: 137 East Weber Ave 1010 10th Street, Suite 5800 2222 M Street, Suite 305 |
