WASHINGTON, DC – The deadline is quickly approaching for high school students to submit artwork to the 2009 Congressional Art Competition. All entries must be received by Congressman Cardoza’s office by Friday, May 1, 2009.

Each member of the House of Representatives is allowed to exhibit one art entry from a student in his or her congressional district. The winning entry is then prominently displayed for one year on the wall of the tunnel that connects the U.S. Capitol with the House office buildings occupied by congress members and their staffs.

The winning artist from each Congressional District, along with one guest, is invited to a special reception on Capitol Hill in June that highlights their accomplishments in conjunction with the hanging of their artwork.

Additionally, Congressman Cardoza’s will hold the 2nd Annual Congressional Art Competition Reception for the 18th Congressional District in Stockton on Sunday, May 17th. Students, teachers and parents are invited to attend the reception from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Tidewater Art Gallery located at 223 East Weber Avenue, Stockton, CA 95202.

The reception is an excellent opportunity for the public to see the various entries submitted for this competition. The winner will be announced during the reception. Local artists, students and members of Congressman Cardoza’s staff will be at the reception to recognize the work of these young talented students. For questions or to RSVP, please contact Ellen Powell of the congressman’s staff at 209-946-0361 or by e-mail at Ellen.Powell@mail.house.gov.
