WASHINGTON – I have said repeatedly that we need health care reform in America. I believe that President Obama clearly made the case this evening in explaining why reform is so desperately needed. Yet as I have also said, the details of the reform proposal will be critical for it to pass Congress, and that is what we now must work on.

I was pleased that the President was focused on the nation’s economy as he kicked off his speech this evening. While much of the national economy is on the mend, and the nation’s attention has turned to health care reform, my hope is that President Obama will also focus his efforts on California’s Central Valley.

I reaffirm my call to the President to assist our Central Valley farmers in their time of need, to help our homeowners in their mortgage struggles and to help our citizens return to work following the economic destruction that has devastated our community.
