WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Registered Nurse Safe Staffing Act (HR 4138) was introduced Nov. 9 in the U.S. House of Representatives by Lois Capps, D-Calif., and Ginny Brown-Waite, R-Fla.

If enacted, the law would require hospitals to consult with their nurses to develop and implement a staffing policy that ensures an appropriate number of registered nurses on each shift and in each unit of the hospital for patient safety.
