Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Howard L. Berman (D-CA) released the following statement after the White House announced that Dolores Huerta will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The statement follows:

“Few Americans in our history have done more to protect workers and safeguard women’s rights than Dolores Huerta. Dolores with Cesar Chavez organized farm workers and founded the United Farm Workers, giving a voice to the voiceless and leading a movement of national urgency. Countless Americans owe a debt of immense gratitude to Huerta for making their causes her own. We are a better country because Dolores Huerta continues to play a vital role in shaping our laws and values. I could not be prouder that she will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.”
