Congressman Berman Applauds Vote to Limit Van Nuys Airport Noise

Van Nuys, CA - Congressman Berman today praised the Los Angeles City Council’s unanimous vote to phase out jet noise from air traffic at Van Nuys Airport.

“Jet noise is a serious concern for all Valley residents, and I’m pleased that these new noise limits have been set to improve the quality of life for all those who are affected by flight noise from Van Nuys Airport.

Under the new restrictions, jets emitting noise of 85 decibels or more at takeoff will be banned this year, with limits becoming increasingly strict through 2016.  The decision will affect nearly 2,000 flights by phasing out “Stage 2” aircraft and requiring owners to either retrofit their planes or move their flight paths elsewhere.

“But the battle is only partly won,” Berman noted.  “I will keep fighting for a curfew at Burbank Bob-Hope Airport.  All Valley residents are entitled to meaningful nighttime airport noise relief.”
