Because of the anthrax contamination last year, Congress instituted safety procedures that require all incoming mail to be irradiated. Because of this procedure, mail delivery to congressional offices is delayed by a week or more. Considering those delays, residents of California's 28th Congressional District may wish to send their comments or questions on legislation and policies to the Van Nuys address rather than to Washington. The Van Nuys office is always the best address for casework matters (veterans problems, lost Social Security checks, etc.) and requests from residents seeking flags and tours of the Capitol.
