Rep. Watson Announces Passage of Resolution to Celebrate Citizenship Day

Washington, D.C. ---Rep. Watson announced the passage of H.Con. Res. 136 on September 8, 2009. This resolution authorizes the use of the Capitol Grounds for a celebration of Citizenship Day on September 17, 2009.

“I am pleased to know that the resolution has passed the U.S. House and that is on its way to the Senate for passage. I authored this resolution to celebrate Citizenship Day.” stated Watson. “Every September 17th, unless it falls on a weekend or other holiday, Constitution Day, also called Citizenship Day, is celebrated to mark the anniversary of the ratification of the U.S. Constitution.  This is one of the newest federal holidays to be established by Congress, as it was passed in just 2004.  Citizenship Day was the name given to the holiday prior to its official designation."
