Rep. Watson Announces Passage of An Act to Designate Postal Facility as Johnny Grant Hollywood Post Office Building in Los Angeles

Washington, D.C.-- Rep. Diane Watson announced the passage of an Act to designate the postal facility located at 1615 North Wilcox Ave in Los Angeles as the "Johnny Grant Hollywood Post Office Building. The Act was first introduced on June 8, 2009 and was passed in the U.S. House of Representatives on September 8, 2009

Johnny Grant was an American radio personality and television producer who also served as the honorary mayor of Hollywood. In that capacity he was often present at Hollywood community functions, including the unveiling of new stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. An intersection just north of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue is designated as "Johnny Grant Way."

"The late Johnny Grant was the honorary Mayor of Hollywood. His lifetime dedication to entertaining our Armed Forces and promoting Hollywood was well known around the world," said Watson. "Johnny served as a U.S.O. ambassador, joining the globe-trotting comedian Bob Hope in taking entertainers to war zones to perform for military personnel, and was the first recipient of the highest honor awarded by the USO, the United Service Organizations."

Johnny Grant was instrumental in arranging for stars from Hollywood to visit wounded veterans of the Vietnam War. He served in the military in various capacities. He was a retired major general in the California State Military Reserve and served on the volunteer backup and support force of the California National Guard. He served the city of Los Angeles as the chairman of the Los Angeles City Fire Commission, the Los Angeles County Social Service Commission, and the Burbank, California Police Commission. He also served as a member of the Los Angeles City Cultural Heritage Commission.
