Bilbray Issues Statement on Court Decision to

Uphold Convictions of U.S. Border Agents

(Washington D.C.)- Congressman Brian Bilbray, the Chairman of the Immigration Reform Caucus, issued the following statement today in response to the ruling by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to uphold the convictions of Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean:

“I am very disappointed by the Court’s decision to uphold the convictions of Border Patrol agents Ramos and Compean.  These two brave guardians of our border have already served far too much time in prison, and I call on President Bush to pardon them without any further delay.”

Ramos and Compean were convicted in 2006 and sentenced to 11 and 12 years in prison respectively for shooting an illegal immigrant drug smuggler.  Ramos and Compean have claimed they were acting in self defense.
