Bilbray Releases Statement on Proposed Financial Market Bailout
Calls on Speaker Pelosi to Keep Congress in Session

(Washington D.C.)- Rep. Brian Bilbray released the following statement today expressing his concern about the Administration’s bailout proposal and the latest reiterations that have come forward from the House and Senate Democrats:

“There is a fine balance between acting expeditiously and acting recklessly.  We are talking about the future of the American economy and the impact it will have not only today, but on our children in the future.  Ultimately, the devil will be in the details that are still being crafted and it would be irresponsible to force a vote on a hastily crafted bill that grew from three to forty pages in just the past few days.

“Frankly, it is wrong to make the American taxpayers shoulder the financial burden caused by the poor financial decisions made by irresponsible lenders and borrowers.  The banking and investment executives that caused this financial breakdown must not be allowed to walk away unscathed with their million dollar golden parachutes.

“Speaker Pelosi should keep the Congress in session beyond the scheduled September 26th adjournment date so that can work on a way forward that isn’t contingent on the political calendar.”
