Washington, D.C. – Chief Deputy Whip Diana DeGette (D-CO) announced her support for House Concurrent Resolution 99, the Democratic budget resolution, that is expected to be voted on this Thursday.
“For six years the Republican Congress and President Bush’s budgets have made irresponsible cuts to important domestic programs while turning a record surplus into a record deficit. That fiscal recklessness ends this week.
“The Democratic budget takes America in a new direction, returning fiscal responsibility to Washington. This budget reflects our priorities by providing funding for issues important to the American people such children’s health care, education and national security.
“Our budget restructures government to shift funds to allow for a $50 billion expansion of children’s health insurance to cover millions of additional uninsured children. Education and job training programs will receive $3 billion more than current levels and we increase funding for veterans’ health care by more than 14 percent.
“As Chief Deputy Whip, I am working overtime to ensure that we pass this budget.”
