Ros-Lehtinen Co-Sponsors Legislation To Improve

The Care & Treatment Of Diabetes & Alzheimer's

Washington, DC ---- Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, senior member of the Florida Congressional Delegation, co-sponsored The Minority Diabetes Initiative Act, which if enacted, will greatly improve the way our country cares for and treats minorities who suffer from Diabetes. The Alzheimer's Treatment & Caregiver Support Act would expand treatment and support services for Americans affected by Alzheimer's disease. The Bills were introduced by Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA).

The Minority Diabetes Initiative Act would establish an initiative to provide grants to physicians, community based organizations and other health care providers for diabetes care and treatment programs in minority communities.

The Alzheimer's Treatment and Caregiver Support Act would provide grants to public and non profit organizations to improve treatment services for Alzheimer's patients and it will expand training and support services for families and caregivers.

Said Ros-Lehtinen, "Taking care of our elderly and infirmed is one of the most serious responsibilities we have as a family and as a community. These two pieces of legislation would give us the needed tools to make sure that we do just that. I urge all my colleagues to support both of these Bills. "
