Feeney Applauds UCF Med School Vote

VA Hospital Should Be Next

(Orlando,FL) - U.S. Rep. Tom Feeney (R-Oviedo) today hailed the decision of Florida's Board of Governors to endorse the launch of a medical school at the University of Central Florida.

"I am thrilled with Florida's Board of Governors vote to endorse $200 million to launch medical schools at UCF and FIU.   This historic vote was one of the most important decisions our state has met for the future of economic, educational, and scientific benefits to Central Florida.

"Experts predict 25,000 new jobs and $6.4 billion generated during the first decade.   The economic benefits of a new medical school at UCF will benefit the entire state, attracting more doctors and high-tech biomedical industries.  The future is bright for Central Florida and development at the innovation corridor.

I hope to see a Veterans Administration Hospital tied into this new and exciting development.  I plan to continue to work closely with UCF officials to find a way to compliment the new medical school with a long-needed VA Hospital that hopefully can be co-planned and co-constructed," stated Feeney.

Rep. Feeney represents the University of Central Florida and has been a vocal supporter of the plan to launch a new medical school and a VA hospital in the Central Florida area.
