Feeney Urges Board of Governors to Support UCF Medical School

(Orlando, FL) - U.S. Rep. Tom Feeney (R-Oviedo) today stressed his support for a new medical school at the University of Central Florida.

"I hope Florida's Board of Governors are close to making a decision regarding a new medical school at the University of Central Florida and will not postpone this critical vote that has the potential to bring many economic, educational, and scientific benefits to Central Florida.

"Experts predict 25,000 new jobs and $6.4 billion generated during the first decade.  This, coupled with Florida's physician shortage forms a powerful case in favor of adding a new medical school.  The economic benefits of a medical school will benefit the entire state, attracting more doctors and high-tech biomedical industries.  The proposed site at Lake Nona is a perfect location because it is situated right next to Orange County's Innovation Way, home to high-tech industries,"
stated Feeney.

The Florida Board of Governors is expected to vote on adding a new medical school in Florida in March.
