Neil's Spotlight Spectrum of lawmakers calls for public option to be included in House bill
September 30, 2009
As the U.S. House of Representatives works to bring comprehensive health insurance reform legislation to the floor for a vote, a group of House members, including Congressman Neil Abercrombie, is urging leadership to support a public option in healthcare legislation pending in Congress.
At a news conference on Capitol Hill today, the group--led by Congresswoman Diana DeGette (CO-1), Congresswoman Lois Capps (CA-23), Congresswoman Jane Harman (CA-36) and Congressman Chris Murphy (CT-5)-- said the letter has been sent to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, and was signed by over 50 House Democrats to pronounce their support for a public option to be included in the House bill.
Members who signed the letter are affiliated with a broad spectrum of caucuses, including the Progressive Caucus, the Blue Dog Coalition, the New Democrat Coalition and members who don’t belong to any ideological caucus.
