Washington, D.C. -- "I'm disappointed that on the same day Vice President Al Gore called for the United States to have a carbon free energy supply within 10 years, the DRILL Act considered by the House today took no action to move the country toward an alternate energy future.
The bipartisan bill our House Energy Working Group is putting together right now actually locks in royalties from oil and gas leases to develop alternative fuels and renewable energy, and it provides incentives to make residences, businesses and other buildings more energy efficient.
We can discuss plans for an alternative energy future or we can pay for it. We can give flowery speeches about declaring energy independence from foreign oil or we do something about it."
