Washington, D.C. -- "The Army today announced that it has completed its Final Supplemental Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement for Army Growth and Force Structure Realignment to support operations in the Pacific Theater.
"This report analyzed the environmental and socioeconomic impact of adding additional military personnel to bases in Hawaii and Alaska. This process began last March. The Army is required to evaluate the capacity of their bases to support the reassignment of troops as decisions are made about reallocating forces around the world.
"The Army has completed their assessment, and plans now are to locate approximately 1,300 additional personnel to Hawaii, primarily to Schofield Barracks. Initial indications are that these would be various types of support troops such as engineers, military police, and intelligence personnel. The growth is expected to take place over the next five years.
