Washington, D.C. -- I am already working closely with the incoming administration of President-elect Barack Obama, who won't even take office until January 20th, on a package of economic stimulus legislation to get the United States— and the Hawaii— economies moving again: creating jobs, investing in our transportation structure, in our schools, in our citizens and in our future.
Our four mayors: Carvalho, Hannemann, Kenoi and Tavares have prepared lists of their most critically-needed public works projects that could be underway within 90 days of funding. I am working now with Congressional leaders and the White House to urge that as many of these projects as possible are included in Economic Stimulus legislation that Congress will take up next week.
I intend to keep you up-to-date as this national legislation takes shape. It's your money and you should know how Congress and the Obama Administration intend to use it.
