| Washington, D.C.— As the U.S. Senate debates an economic stimulus package, Congressman Steve King made the following statement:
"Before any stimulus package is signed into law, we must protect the American taxpayer’s hard earned money from being given away to illegal aliens. There are simple changes the Senate can make to the language of this economic stimulus package to stop such fraud. The Senate needs to specify that only one rebate check be allowed per social security number."
"Today, Senators have an opportunity to amend their economic stimulus package that we did NOT have in the House of Representatives. The Pelosi Congress blocked all attempts to amend the bill."
"There are companies who employ multiple employees using the same social security number. Illegals commonly use the same (stolen) social security number dozens even hundreds of times. There are, at least, 11,000 employees using work social security numbers who are working for the government!"
"It is questionable economics to send checks to people and ask them to spend the money to stimulate the economy. It is folly, and an insult to American workers, for the government to send multiple checks to those whom we know are working here illegally."
King is the top Republican for Immigration on the House Judiciary Committee.
