| Washington, D.C.—Congressman Steve King is considering applications from high school juniors who want to serve as a page in the U.S. House of Representatives. King will appoint a 16-year-old western Iowan for the U.S. House of Representatives Page Program that commences January 27, 2008 and concluding on June 6, 2008.
“I encourage students to apply for this unique opportunity to work in Congress for a semester while enrolled at the House Page School,” Rep. Steve King said. “It is an excellent opportunity for a young Iowan to learn how the United States Congress really works. This is a perfect chance for high school students to explore their interest in a career of public service,” King said.
Pages play an important role in the legislative process. This spring semester, 66 pages will be appointed by their members of Congress. The pages work together primarily serving as messengers to the House of Representatives. A typical workday begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m., or until the House adjourns for the day—whichever is later.
Room and board for the pages is provided in addition to a monthly salary. Pages are required to live at the Page Residence Hall, 501 First Street, S.E.
Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA (4.0 scale). Applications can be downloaded online at clicking here. In addition to the application form, candidates must send an official transcript, a resume of extra-curricular activities, three letters of recommendation, and a 250-300 word essay on why he or she would like to serve as a Congressional Page.
Completed applications must be received in Congressman King’s Creston office by October 15, 2007. Please address your application to Congressman Steve King, PO Box 601 Creston, IA 50801. Applications may also be faxed to (641) 782-2497 to ensure prompt receipt. Faxed applications are encouraged.
