| Washington, D.C.—Congressman Steve King, a Member of the Republican Study Committee (RSC) Steering Committee and Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Communications Chair of the RSC, have asked Speaker Nancy Pelosi to consider their bill known as the CUT Resolution.
The CUT (Cut the Unnecessary Tab) Resolution or H.Res. 776, would update the House Rules to require a quarterly rescission bill, open for any amendment, to cut unspent funds for the ongoing fiscal year. The resolution appears in sharp relief to the Pelosi Omnibus bill expected to pass today. The omnibus appropriations bill will cost the American taxpayer more than $900 billion, including 11,000 earmarks totaling $20 billion.
King stated, "The Congressional budget process is set-up for blind, big-government accounting. We introduced the CUT Resolution to force all Representatives to take responsibility for every taxpayer dollar spent. There will be no more hiding from their responsibility to America. Either vote Yea or Nay."
"The CUT Resolution is a line-item veto for every Member of the House, and it will open the budget to the public, leaving nothing behind closed doors. Any blogger, or any citizen, will be able to search the budget for fat and petition their Representative to cut it. CUT will put fiscal responsibility back into the federal budget," added King.
