| Washington, D.C.—Congressman Steve King congratulated President Bush for his nomination of former Iowa Congressman Jim Nussle to be his budget chief. If confirmed by the Senate, Nussle, a former House Budget Committee Chairman, would be part of the President’s cabinet.
“Jim Nussle served Iowa with great distinction in the United States Congress for 16 years. As Chairman of the House Budget Committee, he proved he is tenacious, and a leader who knows how to work on both sides of the aisle to maintain financial discipline and accountability to the American taxpayers. We Iowans were fortunate to have his representation, just as the President is fortunate to have found the right man for the right job,” said King.
Early this afternoon, the White House announced the resignation of the current Director of the Office of Management and Budget, former Congressman Rob Portman.
“Jim Nussle has proven himself time and again. It will be a real pleasure to join him, again, in our efforts to slow the growth of government and balance the budget,” added King.
Congressman Steve King (R-IA) represents Western Iowa in the United States Congress and sits on the Agriculture, Judiciary and Small Business Committees. He is also Chairman of the innovative Conservative Opportunity Society, founded by Newt Gingrich.
