King Passes Controversial Amendment to Stop Federal Government Hiring of Illegals
Washington, D.C.—Congressman Steve King today offered an amendment to a federal housing assistance bill that would ensure that taxpayer money would not be used to hire illegal aliens. The measure passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 263-146.
“It is intolerable that the federal government is the largest employer of unlawful workers in the entire country. The Pelosi-led Congress continues to push for amnesty, yet government’s own house isn’t in order. This time the floor debate was Rep. Barney Frank vs. Steve King and conscience of the Congress won out,” stated King.
This is the latest amendment that King has offered to nearly half a dozen bills recently passed by the House of Representatives. The effort garnered great public attention before Congress adjourned for August recess. The House Democrats gaveled closed a vote on a similar amendment and declared it had failed even though the vote clearly showed the measure passing 215-213.
Congressman Steve King (R-IA) represents Western Iowa in the United States Congress and sits on the Agriculture, Judiciary and Small Business Committees and is the top Republican on the Immigration Subcommittee.
