Washington, D.C.—U.S. Congressman Steve King announced the National Training Center in Sioux City on Friday will receive the official award for a federal earmark of $987,228 from the Bureau of Justice Assistance of the Department of Justice.
The project funding is the result of King’s efforts with the U.S. House Appropriations Subcommittee that has funding jurisdiction over Science, the Department of State, Justice and Commerce and Related Agencies.
“I never let Congressional leadership forget the impact of our National Training Center on law enforcement and communities across the nation and our nation-wide fight against meth,” said King.
Last December, King met with city leaders and Sioux City Police Department to work on a strategy for long-term appropriations and authorization. While a federal earmark does not grant long-term funding, it will go towards operations for Fiscal Year 2006.
