Washington, D.C.— Iowa Congressman Steve King today released the following statement in reaction to legislation Senator Max Baucus (D-MT) introduced this week intending to control water levels on the Missouri River:
“Max Baucus has thrown a legislative temper tantrum. He has about as much chance of getting his way as a 13-year-old has of getting the car keys for the night.
“For as long as Baucus has represented Montana, I would think that he would first have the due diligence to learn the hydrology of the Missouri River. Even if we shut down the flow on all of the dams during the off season, we only accumulate one foot of water per month, and to satisfy the demands of the reservoir states, we need to accumulate 25 to 30 feet of water.
“Under the current climactic conditions, and under the direction of his legislation, Max Baucus would have the water he demands in 8 to 9 years. It’s bound to rain before then!”
