U.S. REP. BOBBY L. RUSH STATEMENT ON EMMETT TILL’S EXHUMATION:
 “I SUPPORT THE EFFORTS”

Chicago, IL. ---- “I am pleased with the FBI’s decision to exhume the body of 14-year-old Emmett Till as part of the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) reinvestigation of his 1955 murder and subsequent sham trial which set the perpetrators free back in Money, Mississippi.

It’s been 50 years of turmoil and unanswered questions for Till’s family and the American people. No one can be certain as to what can be found using current forensic science methods, but I am hopeful that this exhumation effort will lead us down a revealing path of answers, action and prosecution of any surviving accomplices.

This is a significant step toward closure for Mamie Till Mobley and the rest of the Till family.  I made a vow to Mrs. Mobley before her death, that I would seek justice for her son. Since introducing the first congressional resolution in the U.S. Congress, where I called on the DOJ to reopen and reinvestigate Emmett Till’s murder thoroughly and efficiently, it’s rewarding to know that we are finally moving in that direction.”
