Congressman Johnson, USDA announce that Meadowbrook Farms receives Rural Development loan |
|
| Washington DC… U.S. Rep. Tim Johnson
(IL-15) proudly announced today that hundreds of new jobs are coming to
Rantoul, while, at the same time, scores of family farmers in Illinois
and across the Midwest will see an economic boost from a new pork processing
facility. The United States Department of Agriculture – Rural Development
program has approved the loan of federal money totaling $19,700,000, for
the construction and operation of the Meadowbrook Farms Cooperative pork
processing plant to be located on Rantoul’s far west side.
“At a time when the agriculture economy is nearing a decade in the dumps, when the U.S. economy has drastically slowed, and when small Midwestern cities like Rantoul are desperately seeking new employers to engage a ready and capable workforce, it brings me great joy to report that the much anticipated Meadowbrook Farms Cooperative pork processing plant will be soon breaking ground in Rantoul,” said Johnson. “This plant is expected to employ more than two hundred permanent workers once complete; and in the meantime numerous construction jobs. The entire process will be a great benefit to the region’s economy, and for that matter, Illinois’ agriculture economy.” Rantoul Village Administrator Gary Adams said, “I am delighted at the news that USDA Rural Development has approved the loan. This is a large; much needed economic boost for the entire Rantoul area. We eagerly anticipate the ground-breaking and the soon-to-be flourishing facility." |
