Washington DC… College-aged students interested in serving internships on Capitol Hill are encouraged to visit U.S. Rep. Tim Johnson’s Congressional Website at www.house.gov/timjohnson/internships to learn about opportunities for the upcoming fall semester.  Interns provide invaluable service to Members of Congress while at the same time gain solid experience in government and public service. 

Individuals interested in securing an internship in the office of U.S. Rep. Tim Johnson for the upcoming fall semester must have an application into the Congressional office no later than August 7, 2003.  Please fax the application to the attention of Therese Rios at (202) 226-0791, and then mail the same material to 1229 Longworth HOB, Washington DC 20515.  Rep. Johnson’s staff will interview the candidates during August and the internships will begin September 3, 2003.

“Capitol Hill is a very exciting environment for young adults,” said Rep. Johnson (IL-15).  “An internship with the U.S. House of Representatives gives an individual a strong foundation in government and public service and will undoubtedly supplement numerous scholastic and occupational endeavors.”

For those students who are at least sophomores in college, an internship can be extended to the right candidate. The position will allow the intern to learn the inner workings of the legislative process firsthand by assisting the staff with constituent service activities, administrative support, and special projects. The individual may be responsible for researching legislative issues and aiding in responses to constituents. Interested candidates for this position should be dedicated, hard working, and above all, possess superior language and writing skills. In addition, we look for students who have excellent interpersonal skills, and will be able to keep up in a fast-paced environment.  There are three sessions to fill for internships: January- May, May- August, and August- December.
