| Washington DC…The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) are awarding fire departments nationwide, millions of dollars in grants this month to focus on interdepartmental fire operations and fire safety. U.S. Rep. Tim Johnson (IL-15) is proud to report that these 15th District fire department have earned federal matching dollar awards:
Cooks Mills FPD (Humboldt) $171,000 Coles County
Loda FPD $71,633 Ford County
Martinsville FPD $64,975 Clark County
Pesotum FPD $61,324 Champaign County
Edge-Scott FPD (Urbana) $59,940 Champaign County
Carroll FPD (Urbana) $47,999 Champaign County
Wabash FPD (Mattoon) $37,566 Coles County
Sidell Fire and Rescue $9270 Vermilion County
“Rural fire departments throughout my district provide excellent service to their communities and I am happy to have assisted in their earning FEMA grants,” said Johnson. “When fire departments in rural communities like Humboldt, Loda, Martinsville, Pesotum, and Sidell contact me, looking for funding to improve the safety and infrastructure of their communities, I do not hesitate to seek out available funds and send them to the deserving fire departments, especially at a time of heightened awareness for American emergency professionals. Likewise, larger communities like Urbana and Mattoon have emergency needs and I am eager to assist their fire departments in obtaining federal dollars.”
The FEMA and USFA dollars coming to the listed fire departments (except Cooks Mills FPD) are going to help implement the Fire Operations and Firefighter Safety Programs. This will improve training and modernization in these departments. Cooks Mills FPD in Humboldt, IL has been awarded matching federal dollars to put toward the purchase of a new firefighting vehicle for that district. The federal dollars come from the ‘Assistance to Firefighters Program.’
