| Washington DC…The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) are awarding fire departments nationwide, millions of dollars in grants this month to focus on interdepartmental fire operations and fire safety. U.S. Rep. Tim Johnson (IL-15) is proud to report that these 15th District fire departments have earned federal matching dollar awards:
Crescent-Iroquois FPD Iroquois County $67,662
Greenup Fire Department Cumberland County $110,016
Homer Fire Department Champaign County $108,909
Omaha Fire & Rescue Gallatin County $33,461
“Rural fire departments throughout my district provide excellent service to their communities and I am happy to have assisted in their earning FEMA grants,” said Johnson. “When fire departments in rural communities like Omaha, Homer, Greenup and Crescent City contact me, looking for funding to improve the safety and infrastructure of their communities, I do not hesitate to seek out available funds and send them to the deserving fire departments, especially at a time of heightened awareness for American emergency professionals.”
The FEMA and USFA dollars coming to the above Fire Departments are going to help implement the Fire Operations and Firefighter Safety Programs. This will improve training and modernization in these departments. The federal dollars come from the ‘Assistance to Firefighters Program.’
