| Washington DC… The United States
House has passed a measure that would allow for a major upgrade at Bloomington’s
Central Illinois Regional Airport (CIRA). U.S. Rep. Tim Johnson (IL-15)
said Congress is directing the Federal Aviation Administration to include
in the facilities and equipment budget, money to upgrade the Instrument
Landing System (ILS) at CIRA. The ILS is sophisticated technology
that assists air traffic in negotiating severe and extraordinary weather
situations.
“This improvement will make CIRA an invaluable airport in the midwestern region of the U.S.,” said Johnson. “The upgraded ILS will benefit commercial, corporate and cargo carriers. It will enhance the facility’s usability in inclement weather and reduce delays in addition to the economic development benefits it will allow for McLean County and region.” CIRA Executive Director Mike LaPier echoed Johnson’s remarks; “The upgrade from a Category 1 ILS to a Category 2 ILS dramatically improves the functionality of this airport to all existing and future users. I am very excited about the implementation of the new technology.” |
