Congressman Pete Visclosky released the following statement on the farm bill conference report, which passed the House of Representatives today:
“The farm bill that passed the House today sets a new direction for agricultural policy in America. It is the product of bipartisan, bicameral cooperation and compromise, and I believe that it provides American farmers with the tools they need to keep food on our plates and keep our country healthy.
“Since efforts on the farm bill began over a year ago, my staff and I have worked closely with the First Congressional District’s Farm Bill Advisory Board to make sure that the needs and concerns of Northwest Indiana’s farming community are tackled in the bill. The farm bill ensures food security, promotes homegrown renewable energy, reforms farm programs, and protects the environment. I thank the Farm Bill Advisory Board for working with me on this bill and I am confident that the finished product will benefit our local farmers and everybody in Northwest Indiana.” |
