Washington, D.C. – Congressman Pete Visclosky issued the following statement today on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which passed the House with Visclosky’s American Steel First Amendment intact:
“My top priority is preserving and creating jobs, and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will do just that in Northwest Indiana and across the country.
“I am especially pleased that my American Steel First Amendment remained in the bill, requiring stimulus projects to use exclusively American-made steel and creating steel industry jobs. The workers are ready, the mills are ready, and by buying American steel we will create jobs and economic opportunities. After all, in Northwest Indiana, when steel is strong it engenders economic activity nearby.
“The economic stimulus legislation is designed to quickly create as many as 4 million jobs by rebuilding America’s vital infrastructure, providing most Americans with a tax cut, moving us toward energy independence, and increasing our global competitiveness to put us on the path toward long-term growth. I believe that our dire economic situation demands such sweeping action, and I support this effort to revitalize the economy and create jobs.” |
